Central Sunshine Coast Resilient Community Forming
- Cooperative Landshare Purchase
Imagine a group of diverse individuals and families, in a spirit of cooperation, common goals, and care for the environment, living and sharing the stewardship of a piece of land and appropriate accommodation and facilities.
Imagine all the benefits of community living...
- knowing your neighbours
- friendships, trust and support
- multiple skills and resources
- bulk buying and joint ventures
- larger scale of growing and forestry projects
- flexibility of occupancy and resource application
- possibilities for innovative ventures such as biochar production, biodiesel production, an education centre or a community supported agriculture (CSA) distribution node
Imagine a place where all are valued, where the natural conflicts and challenges which arise can be aired safely, where projects, expenses and profits are shared, where external interests and relationships are encouraged, and your own private space is respected.
Too good to be real? While everything worthwhile requires some effort, this is not as out of reach as you might think. Derek Hayward lived on such a property in New Zealand for many years. A growing number of people, in a myriad of ways, for just as many reasons are doing it around the world. Co-housing, eco-villages, intentional communities – call them what you will – have lots of benefits over mainstream housing developments.
Cooperative living challenges the social and economic models that most of us have grown up in and been conditioned to believe. Big houses on lots of little blocks of land have left us isolated and in debt.
The fragility of the economic system is increasing. Now is a wise time to be considering cooperative living.
At this stage we are just bringing people together to discuss it. Once we have a formed group of seriously interested people we will look at sites, structures, etc.
If you are interested in discussing and coming along to an informal meeting on this then email Derek Hayward [dellboy.hayward “at” gmail.com] or Mitch Lawrie.
